My posts may include paid links for which I earn a commission.
I have written and spoken numerous times in the past few years about how much Affiliate Summit has helped my business. The connections that I have made are invaluable! Some people think that there is a point of diminishing returns–the more times you go, the less ROI you get from each time. Wrong! Here’s a perfect example how you can make money quickly from the connections you build.
9 days ago I gave a presentation at Affiliate Summit East. An affiliate manager in the audience contacted me afterward to tell me she liked the presentation and invited me to join her program. Normally I backfile these type of requests for weeks or even years depending on the merchant and how many requests I have on file. But I was excited for the feedback on my presentation.
5 days ago I responded to her and got the merchant added to one of my sites. Although I had never heard of the brand, it seemed like a good fit for my audience and had the types of products I could promote.
Today I got my first sale with them–$2200 for an $180 commission. That sale alone paid for my plane ticket to ASE12. And hopefully it will only be the first of many. Through the course of correspondence about the sale, I got to know the affiliate manager and the brand even better and now have them set up to feature in my Daily Deals as well.
Never overlook the opportunities that are put in front of you at Affiliate Summit. I mentioned on Facebook last week that I felt it was one of the best conferences I have attended in terms of deals and productivity in years. I had high hopes and they are already playing out! I’m already making plans for Affiliate Summit West in Vegas and if you are serious about your affiliate marketing career, you should be, too.

Those first sales are always nice to see. It shows that there is at least life in the program. But I like the 100th sale, the 1000th sale, and other big numbers like that as well.

ASE12 paid off for me, too:
Won $100 Amazon gift card from the Affiliate Summit Forum
Won $100 Visa gift card from CallTransfers.com
Lots of T-shirts (17, I think? My wife & kids use them)
Met w/ an OPM who wasn’t answering my emails and got 10 commissions fixed resulting in +$400
Met w/ another OPM and got a commission bump (10 to 12%)
Met Matt McWilliams in person (Priceless)
You never know what’s going to come out of the face-to-face networking opportunities

Grats, Tricia!! First sales are always special, but when they make you such commission it makes them all the more special. 🙂
I’ve found this past Affiliate Summit East to be one of the most productive ones ever too. Negotiating with 3 very interested merchants/prospective clients now… (fingers crossed).

Affiliate Summit East in New York was our first and coming from the UK, was quite a commitment. Although we’re not finished following up leads or implementing the ideas we got there, I would be surprised if the 12 month ROI didn’t more than cover the cost. We got some good new affiliates plus, it was really fun 😉

Ironically, I just joined your program yesterday after reading about your ASE experience in the Affiliate Summit forum. 🙂

Very nicely played I am sure this new relationship will bring you a lot more sales in the future. That is the thing with going to Affiliate Summit over and over you never know where the next opportunity will turn up.

Well played Tricia! Congrats on the first sale.
